Healing for the AAPI+ Community

This has been a very difficult week to process. As a Chinese-Taiwanese American, and a member of the AAPI community, anti-Asian racism, hatred, and bigotry has been a burden and reality I and many millions have faced since I was a child.

I have faced racism and discrimination personally, professionally, in the corporate workplace, and on stage. However, with the era of this pandemic, the amount of anti-Asian crimes have risen dramatically. Learning of the news of this massacre in Atlanta was not only a painful reminder of the reality of what it’s like to be a person of color in the United States, but also the reality that there is a lot of misplaced animosity and targeting of people based on prejudice.

My hearts and prayers go to the victims’ families, six of whom are AAPI’s. The most I can do as an artist is to offer this piece of music for healing. To that end, this song goes out to those affected by the crisis, and to the entire AAPI community.

This is painful, this hurts, this is wrong, and this is filled with injustice. We are more invigorated than ever, and we will continue to do the work to #stopthehate If you want to show your support to your fellow AAPI Americans, friends, and family, please do reach out to them and ask them how they are doing, donate to AAPI non-profits fighting to protect and defend our civil liberties, and call your congressperson to enact change in the legislature.

As of now, all of the victims have not been identified since this post. Their names are Xiaojie Tan, Daoyou Feng, Hyun-Jeong Park Grant, Delaina Ashley Yaun, Paul Andre Michels, Soon Chung Park, Suncha Kim, and Yong Ae Yue. Their murderer is Robert Aaron Long. #stopasianhate
